owen pallett (formerly ‘final fantasy’….this guy writes the string parts for arcade fire) -“midnight directives.”
my radio/alarm went off around 7:15 this morning to wake me up for work. first song that came on was “7/4 shoreline” by broken social scene, so i stayed in bed and listened to it. this was the next song, featuring crazy violin loops and borderline dizzying wind parts. once it was done, i called up and groggily asked the the v89 DJ about the track. if the word “exhilarating” comes to mind about something that took place before 8 am, a post on here is seriously the least i can do.
Apparently two years ago, in the year of the cow, we had mad cow disease. Then in the year of the chicken, avian flu. And now, in the year of the pig, swine flu. 2012 is the year of the dragon. No wonder there’s all these TV shows about the apocalypse.
this song is my most played track on itunes, and here’s (fan-created video) the track that follows it on their album “the stix.” when they play live, the two are combined into a 7 minute production. right here is a video of one guy playing four different instruments and jamming out to the first link, “day.” he made it onto jaga jazzist’s web page, which is a pretty good indication of success for a cover act of any sort. finally, here’s a link to four shortened tracks from their latest album, which i’m still hoping to figure out how to buy. i especially like “bananfleur overalt” and “book of glass.” what do you think?
“I’m Jennifer Elizabeth Crassus Pompeia III and I’m here with today’s weather forecast. We have some systems of low pressure moving through Herculaneum, and they should make their way to Rome by this evening. The high is four drops of sweat past the small of the back, with a low of wear an extra toga. Tomorrow should be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of an imperial coup. In other news, due to Nero’s excess spending on the golden palace, the bread tax will be increased 14% for the next three months. Additionally, sinkholes may be present under the Colosseum. This has been Jennifer Elizabeth Crassus Pompeia III, coming to you live from the ABC Column of Trajan. Up next, it’s Live! with Regis and Kelly! Back to you, Cicero!”— - The Jenny Nokutis
took one of the suggested topics from the life123 site….here’s some analysis of two of the top running backs in the upcoming 2010 nfl draft, cj spiller and toby gerhart. might as well follow up an article about poetry writing with some football talk.
radiohead plus part of the usc marching band playing 15 step…..could’ve been stupid but i think it adds another level of energy to an already exciting piece of music. ending is pretty damn thrilling. some schmoe on youtube posted it with an accompanying slideshow, but here’s the audio. it’s from the grammys, which were…..a few months ago, i think?
got another piece of writing published on life123 (my questlove article is posted below), check it out. bit of a random topic but it was easy to write, because of the poetry classes i’ve taken and enjoyed thoroughly. definitely an advocate, whether for recreational or practical purposes. also, let me know if you either found my advice helpful, or felt like i left some important things out. every day that you look at any of my articles on the life123 site (no more than once a day), i get a wee little bit of money, so…………..i love you?
i made this track on garageband towards the end of the summer. i’m kind of ambivalent about the first half of it, but enjoy the second half a lot. it’s called "levers ladders and pulleys,"which will probably make a LOT of sense once you listen to the song. typically when i make music, it’s much closer to sunrise than sunset, so the “album” is currently titled "go to sleep already." i don’t really listen to music that sounds like what i’ve produced so far, though i attribute that to the software at my disposal. i hope this’ll make at least one person in the world dance in front of their computer screen.
i haven’t created a new site in a while, but i decided that i’d like to have a spot on the web where i can consolidate my creative endeavors. hopefully, posting mixed media creations and interacting with people while doing so will allow this website to serve as an artistic catalyst. annnnd enough with the suspense, here’s my first post, because i want to see how it looks. this will more than likely be my worst post, by both of our standards.
