i’ve listened to this song and album disproportionately often, the last month or so. there may be one more song from it i’ll post eventually, though i’ll admit that i’ve been spamming it a lot lately. pitchfork says this album is kind of whatever and that this song in particular took a vocal melody from ‘take pills’ by panda bear, though i’ve listened to that song and album in excess as well, and never even considered a similarity. this track seems somewhere between the shins and of montreal for me; the style and chords of the wonderful piano intro perhaps suggest the latter’s epic ‘the hopeless opus or the great battle of the unfriendly ridiculous,’ if not the work of some turn-of-the-previous-previous-century (19th to 20th) classical composer. do investigate further.
