Hundred Waters - Caverns
I came to the stark realization that I have yet to share a track from Hundred Waters outside of my latest mixtape earlier this year. Which I feel bad for. Honestly. Whenever I’m asked who my favorite band is, who am I listening to, or who I’m excited about, my answer has been Hundred Waters. Made up of formerly and sometimes backing band to fellow Gainsville, FL residents and terribly underrated Levek, Hundred Waters has crafted powerful intrepid melodies coupled with the angelic voices that from top to bottom make the hair of a bald head stand on end.
You can listen to the phenomenal album on their website where you can find how to purchase it. They should be going on tour this late spring so keep an eye out, they’re a can’t miss.
heavy and moving track…..after i was through listening, i immediately wanted to hear it again. closest comparison might be to sigur ros, though i suppose the dreamy icelanders would’ve probably switched up or developed the melody at some point instead of just maintaining the motif and building around it. the repetitive, sinewy melodic line is performed by an intoxicating combination of electronic and organic textures, one of which might very well be an oboe, and is backed by a fleshy supply of woodwind tones. the subtle use of technology to add distant color and an otherworldly element to the vocals really makes this track stand out among similar music with less intelligent production aesthetics. sounds like a stoned journey through the woods on a hot and wet florida afternoon in the summer, where you’re more likely to be bogged down by the abstractly oppressive heat than anything literally in your path. some of the effects utilized in ‘caverns’ will cause you to wonder if you’re actually trekking in reverse instead of straight ahead, which certainly fits the visual of wandering around an enormous and indiscriminate landscape. best music i’ve heard out of gainesville in a good while. definitely go for the 1080p setting here.
