an extended version of one of my favorite jackie mittoo tracks. if you haven’t noticed, he’s been one of my favorite discoveries of this past year, a pre-reggae/rock steady keyboardist from jamaica, a rude boy who apparently stole his all-important keyboard from a church down the street (truth or legend?? who knows), and was the principal organ player for legendary producer coxsone dodd and the famed studio one record label. there’s a chance that this recording is actually by ibo cooper, a tribute to mittoo from 2004, but the youtube video doesn’t make it especially clear. it sounds a lot like the original, but some extra space for improvisation, so i suppose it doesn’t particularly matter much. this is one of the first tunes i made sure to learn on my melodica. as ‘feel-good’ of a tune as you’re going to hear.
