a friend of mine is a jazz guitarist and we were talking about effect pedals yesterday, and i eventually got around to showing him a live video from the planet of ice tour. ‘dr. l’ling’ is one of my favorites off the album, a prog epic that doesn’t sound too esoteric or uninviting at all. this performance is from their tour in ‘06, after this tune had just came out. here’s the studio version; their performances tend to emulate the record as closely as possible, without much deviation at all. if i ever feel like my life is lacking some air drumming, these guys are usually my go-to group, and as far as that goes, ‘double vision quest’ is another standout that will never get old.
