these NC hip-hop legends don’t really perform as a group anymore, but 2/3’s isn’t too bad at all; 9th wonder and phonte are performing in austin tonight, and it’s definitely on my list of options for tonight. same venue as my most recent post, where the hyperactive jam band morning teleportation just threw down this past thursday. this track comes from the chitlin circuit 1.5 mixtape, which was released in 2005 after the listening, right before their game changing, too-hot-for-BET (aka too lucid/intelligent/honest) the minstrel show album. i’ve seen 9th perform live before, but just spinning samples and beats of his own, nothing from his former trio. phonte constantly throws out quote-worthy verses, definitely one of the most underrated rappers around today. their collaborative set tonight is around $20 and is going down at the nd @ 501 studios, supported by rapsody and median.
