tim dechristopher speech on civil disobedience →

a wonderful exposition regarding destructive coal mining practices in west virginia, its impact on the region and the environment in general, and the unequal application of the law as it pertains to corporations vs people. this perfectly sums up the stance of the government when it comes to big money being hand in hand with evasion of justice, and the ridiculous punishments leveled upon those with who stand up against these policies in the name of sustainability, public safety, and even simply the rights of citizens to deter their land from being exploited. this isn’t just about appalachia or the practice of mountaintop removal. oil companies are at the forefront of the world’s catastrophic direction, and this speech frames that situation with an articulate beauty rarely achieved.
