this video made me nostalgic for sure, giving some insight into some of sxsw 2012’s major events in the realm of the progressive beat scene here in austin. that boat party was seriously incomparable, between the artists aboard, the quality of the free drinks (local beer + tequila with amazing organic juices), the setting and vibe in general, and the fact that it was TEN BUCKS. the second party in this video was the finals for the producer battle tournament, and also a robot koch/b. bravo w/starship connection/eliot lipp show. it actually took place the day before the boat party, on monday night; sxsw doesn’t ‘technically’ start for music until that wednesday by the way, though realistically it typically gets going the friday before. the third of the events, i didn’t make it to; i definitely remember considering it, and even planning on it at one point (it looks amazing in retrospect), but i went to the ninja tune showcase at barbarella instead and paid extra so i could also access the wax poetics showase outside, which featured jonti, oddisee, kooley high, and quantic. i wound up getting kicked out for smoking, and what a story that was. boom baptist is responsible for the music here, with join the studio responsible for filming and compiling the rest. already getting excited for sxsw ‘13. go here for the names of the artists featured in this clip.
