from a fantastic weekend at art outside, though shortly afterwards, i biked downtown to catch slugabed and starkey at barcelona….tough to get out of the house, and having slept until around 2 today proves that, but i made it happen and it was totally worth it. art outside was a totally ideal small festival; short walks to and from the tent, no visible security whatsoever but no need for it at any point (i did see medical staff on golf carts though), a lack of frustrating schedule overlaps (but still continuous music), lots of new artists who i’m excited to learn more about now that i’m home, plenty of visual art all over the place, the occasional dog running around (why not), and the fact that my friends (the number of whom increased as the weekend went on) were in a consolidated enough space that i was able to light up a blunt during heyoka/andreilien and drift around and easily find 5-10 people that i was hoping to share it with. also, there were a lot of little kids there, and they were getting DOWN, to an extent i’d never seen before. the austin area will be providing almost 1/3 of the nation’s ragers by the time 2025 rolls around, i promise you that. these kids love experimental bass music and know how to dance to it, quite the surreal sight; i’m talking like 7 year olds, here. a bunch of them were still around during the late hours, partying like the rest of us, totally immersed in the atmosphere. literally didn’t encounter a single moment of negativity….there was no one checking what people were bringing into and out of the festival, so you could literally bring a handle of liquor into the fest and no one would say anything, but there was no violence, excessive drunkenness (in the way that affects other people, at least), invasive sloppiness, just happy people doing what they wanted in a stimulating, whimsical, and benevolent environment. 

i have plenty of pictures and videos to share, though none from the barcelona aftershow. gotta go to work now and referee a beach v-ball tournament from 3-10, but i’ll most definitely share later.
