LOW END THEORY PODCAST XIX: GLK & JON HOPKINS

this is a fantastic gaslamp killer and jon hopkins mix, a stimulating blend of old and new that whimsically switches between genres and defies easy categorization. expectedly, the gaslamp killer half that starts off the podcast is as eclectic as one can imagine, combining a unique approach to dubstep with sunny 1960’s psychedelia, in a way that seemingly only he and daedelus can pull off regularly. the jon hopkins section is a little reminiscent of burial’s music at times, utilizing minimalism, organic-sounding drums, and a sort of darkly propulsive energy that establishes the set as distinct from the motherfucking gaslamp killer’s nonchalantly paced selections (despite his use of a charlie sheen ‘GO’ sample). somehow it all seems to blend together with a general sense of continuity, and this mix can easily be experienced and enjoyed as a unified whole.
